The Race Part 2: P. Diddy's Race

Now that you are familiar with the procedure to find data on runners from the NYC Marathon webpage you should find it simple to find data on P. Diddy's race.

Step 1: Collect the Data

Start by collecting the data on P. Diddy's race. Go the NYC Marathon Results Page and click on "Results Archive (1970-2004)" on the left (View Pic). In the pop-up window select "Show Marathoner History" and enter the first name "Sean" and last name "Combs" (View Pic). Click "go" on the bottom of the pop-up window to see statistics for Combs. Use this data to fill in the table below in your Race Log (View Pic).

Step 2: Make a Graph

Go back to the graph that you made at Create-A-Graph and click on the "Data" tab. On the "Groups" dropdown-menu select "2" (View Pic). Fill in your data for P. Diddy in the group two area. Click on the "Preview" tab to se your new graph with both racers. When you are done use the "Print/Save" tab to save your graph and a .JPG picture and then insert it into your Race Log.

Step 3: Interpret the graph.

Answer the following questions about P. Diddy's graph in your Race Log.

1) Describe the appearance of the graph. What does it look like? How is it similar or different from the Martin Lel's graph?

2) What is the slope between the first two points of P. Diddy's graph? How does this compare to the slope of Lel's graph?

3) What is the slope between the last 2 points of P. Diddy's graph? How does this compare to the slope between his first two points? If there is a difference, what does that mean?

4) What do you think would be a good estimate of P. Diddy's average speed during the race? Explain how you found your value and why it is appropriate.
