On the second Tuesday of every April, students, teachers, business partners and representatives of higher education take part in the student conference Focus on Your Future! The event is scheduled at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale.
This conference was created to provide high school students a perspective into the business world. Students enrolled in the Academy Programs are eligible to participate because of their association with their career preparatory program. The student conference will consist of motivational speakers, industry experts, admissions officers and college professors who will collaborate to increase student knowledge in career preparation for entrepreneurship, finance, hospitality, information technology and tourism fields. Relevant breakout, roundtable and panel presentations will focus on topics such as Public Speaking and Persuasion, IT Careers for Women, Personal and Professional Growth and Transitioning from High School to College. Exhibitors will be on hand to offer networking and internship placement opportunities throughout the event. In Broward County, there are approximately 1,600 students enrolled in the Academy of Finance, the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism, the Academy of Information Technology and the Institute for Business and Entrepreneurship programs. These programs are in 17 high schools: Boyd Anderson, Blanche Ely, Cooper City, Coral Glades, Cypress Bay, Deerfield Beach, Everglades, Flanagan, Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood Hills, Miramar, Northeast, Piper, Plantation, South Broward, J.P.
