EXPERIENCE:


Research and Product Design Engineer- Ford Motor Company, Dearborn, MI (July, 2000 - January 2003)

·        Performed experimental research into the crashworthiness of composite sandwich structures and applicability to automotive safety structures, including Automotive Composites Consortium (ACC) collaboration

·         Developed a patent-pending dynamic occupant classification algorithm for airbag activation control, with response time improved by a factor of 10  

·         Led a team of seven engineers in an experimental and statistical study of the effect of child safety seat misinstallations on the accuracy of passenger seat classification systems

·         Created design methodology utilizing non-linear CAE analysis to implement heat-weakened aluminum as a structural crush trigger

·         Participated in successful Six-Sigma study to improve capability of installation processes at Wixom Assembly Plant, resulting in minimized line downtime and repair costs

·         Developed a benchmarking study of competitive cross-vehicle part commonization design strategy and proposed strategy for similar approaches to the Ford product plan


  • Research Assistant
    - University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN (August, 1998 to May, 2000)

    ·        Performed research in the area of polymer composite materials, including: cure-induced stress analysis, characterization of environmental degradation effects, and evaluation of fiber-matrix interface properties

    ·         Collaborated on multi-university research effort in conjunction with The Boeing Company and the Air Force Research Laboratory

    ·         Supervised and coordinated the work of an undergraduate research assistant in the area of in-cure monitoring of polymer composite stiffness development


    Intern- Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, NM (May, 1996 to August, 1996)

    ·        Developed modeling parameters for computer modeling of pressure buildup in oil storage caverns to be used for safety oversight at several Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) storage sites

    ·         Created a design methodology to facilitate use of new simulations of horizontal solution mining to be used for future storage cavern developments
