Events

Events, such as panel discussions and walking tours, are staged several times a year to capture the community interest in particular topics such as the celebration of historic districts or courthouse design.

Golf View Walking Tour
Following the success of the Hibiscus Park Walking Tour in April 2002, the Florida Community Design Center agreed to partner with the Matheson Center and the Golf View Association to research, organize and lead a walking tour of Golf View on April 26, 2003.

Planner's Luncheon February 2003
On February 21, 2003 City, County and Regional Planning Council staff met with FCDC board members to discuss future opportunities for participation and collaboration on community design issues.

On February 5, 2003, internationally known expert on Universal Design Elaine Ostroff met with students at the College of Design, Construction and Planning.

Hibiscus Walking Tour April 2002
On Saturday, December 7th, 2002 the Florida Community Design Center in association with the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a panel discussion on affordable housing in Alachua County entitled, "What Is Affordable Housing? It's Not What You Think!"

East Gainesville Master Plan Presentation December 2001

Courthouse Panel Discussion June 2001
Responding to national debate about the appropriate design for public buildings such as courthouses, and to the Gainesville community's immediate interest in the new Alachua County Courthouse, the FCDC hosted a panel discussion which articulated a variety of positions taken by architects and their communities.
