Hibiscus Park Walking Tour and Panel Discussion.
Working in conjunction with the Matheson Historical Museum, the FCDC organized
a walking tour of Gainesville's historic Hibiscus Park neighborhood.
Hibiscus Park, one of Gainesville's first "suburbs," was
platted in the mid-1920s and has evolved into an architecturally rich
eclectic neighborhood over the past 80 years. A series of tours, guided
by School of Architecture students Alexis Anthony, Christina Conetta,
Renwick Daelo and Allen Watters, took place on Saturday, April 27, 2002.
A pamphlet describing historic houses within their neighborhood context,
prepared by the FCDC with research provided by neighborhood residents
and the Matheson Museum staff, was presented to tour participants. The
preceding Thursday evening, April 25, a panel discussion to which the
FCDC contributed, was held at the Matheson Museum. The Hisbiscus Park
pamphlet is available at the Florida Community Design Center. (See FCDC
