Responding to national debate about the appropriate design for public buildings such as courthouses, and to the Gainesville community's immediate interest in the new Alachua County Courthouse, the FCDC hosted a panel discussion which articulated a variety of positions taken by architects and their communities. Speakers were Jay Reeves, who spoke about contextual design; Richard Pohlman who discussed typology and symbolism; Steve Luoni, who presented a modernist position; and Kim Tanzer, who addressed functional issues. A reception followed. The event was held at the Thomas Center on June 3, 2001.
