What is the Shape of Justice? Panel Discussion on Courthouse Design
Responding to national debate about the appropriate design for public buildings such
as courthouses, and to the Gainesville community's immediate interest
in the new Alachua County Courthouse, the FCDC hosted a panel discussion
which articulated a variety of positions taken by architects and their
communities. Speakers were Jay Reeves, who spoke about contextual design;
Richard Pohlman who discussed typology and symbolism; Steve Luoni, who
presented a modernist position; and Kim Tanzer, who addressed functional
issues. A reception followed. The event was held at the Thomas Center
on June 3, 2001.
