Rationale

Children have always been fascinated about the mysteries of space. It has been said that space is human kind's last frontier, since earth has been studied from the bottom of the ocean to the top of the mountains. Within our modern world technology, advances have made space exploration a reality and it is possible that space travel for the average person will be part of the future. This possibility for the future means that children need to understand the concepts of space.

It is important for children to understand that earth is only a minute part of our solar system and that our solar system is only one of many. This broader view of human's place in the universe is an important concept for children to learn and understand. Stimulating children's natural curiosity about the unknown realm of space will engage the students in learning. The study of space will expand and challenge student thinking about their lived reality.
