Lesson Procedures
1.The first 10 minutes, give students a handout, a picture of the Sun and nine planets, and ask students to label them.This allows the teacher to see if students have had prior experience with the planets.
2. Assign the students to read lesson page.
3. Ask students create a database (Microsoft Excel) template about the planets and enter data such as size, distance from sun, length of years, surface areas, location into the database.
4. Have a student team prepare a bibliography with the word processing software based on the information on the student database.
5. Have a student team use the information from the database to prepare a visual display on the solar system.
6. Have the teams present their work to the class.
7. Divide class into 9 group. The student will work in group:
Group 1:
Mercury Group 6: Uranus
Group 2:
Venus Group 7: Neptune
Group 3:
Mars Group 8: Pluto
Group 4:
Jupiter Group 9:
Earth Group 5:
Saturn
8. Have each student use a worksheet to compile information about the planet selected for study.
9 Assign each group to search information about the assigned planet and prepare a power point presentation

system. They will add graphics of the sun and the planets along with textual information explaining
some of the more important features of the planets."
