Abstract

This short clip provides an accurate example for anyone who is interested in learning how to do the perfect oblique crunch. The clip features a fit female dressed in workout attire who is lying on the floor performing two oblique crunches. The subject is zoomed in on so that her feet are touching one edge of the movie clip and the top of her head touches the opposite side of the video clip. This allows for maximum viewing without losing sight of any body parts. It would be a safe assumption to suggest that this video was taped at least a decade ago judging by the woman’s attire, but don’t let that deter you, I doubt you will find any flaws in her oblique crunch form. If you are a visual learner trying to form a complete exercise regiment, this video is perfect to learn from, and thus allowing you to add oblique crunches to your list of exercise moves.

Critical Comments

Potential Audience. This video will be used by anyone interested in educating themselves on how to do an oblique crunch. The video is limited in time, so it may not reach a broad audience.

Quality. As previously suggested, this video is more than a couple of years old. Because of that, it doesn’t have as high of quality footage that is available today.

Availability. This clip is very easily available, along with finding the clip on its original website, there are also multiple other exercise clips to help you along.

Value. This resource has won no awards.

Audience. The content is appropriate for the intended audience.

Timeliness. The video is not up to date. Video format quality could be improved.

Audio. The video does not contain any audio. It would improve the overall effectiveness of the video though, if it was to verbally explain the motions that are being made.

Reliability. The video is reliable since you can watch the subject move and can see that she is performing an oblique crunch.

Appeal. The video does lack appeal. With some extra footage and audio it could have more potential to capture audience.

Abstract

The title of this video clip is Ovulation. From the title alone, one can gather what subject the video will be pertaining to. Upon further inspection you will find that the video clip isn’t as much of a video clip as it is a slide show. The video slide show consists of twenty eight black and white pictures. The quality of the pictures suggest that they may have come from a school text book. After timing the clip with a stop watch, it was concluded that the clip runs twenty eight seconds along. With the application of basic math; twenty eight second slide show clip, twenty eight images. It can be deduced that the pictures transition from image to image at a rate of one clip per second. This video, without any audio, or visual aids such as labels, is very confusing. If the video had not been labeled Ovulation I would have considered that I was looking at cell mitosis.

Critical Comments

Potential Audience. Audience would be a classroom setting. The website title that the video originally came from indicates it came from an academic public school source.

Interests. The video absolutely does not peak any interest. Just watching it, without any explanation, no one would know what the video is about.

Audience. The video does not contain any content that you wouldn’t be able to show to a classroom setting.

Story. The video, other than the sequential clips, does not carry much of a story line.

Appeal. The content does not contain much appeal or interest.

Content Quality. Looking past the black and white photos, the images overall don’t seem to be fuzzy. They are clear in imagery but unclear as to what the viewer is actually looking at. Deciphering between ovary, fallopian tube, egg, and uterus is almost hopeless unless labels are added.

Known. Since the url is one of a school system, I would say that the video is accessible.
