BCN1251C Construction Drawing (2 classes)                                                                Fall 2015, Spring 2016, Fall 2016

The objective of this class is to prepare the first and second year undergrad students with the ability to read and interpret construction graphic and writen documents. After this class, they should be able to communicate with other people in the construction industry effectively and efficiently. This class also equips students with the ability to convert 2D drawings to 3D quickly. Knowing the symbols commonly used in construction drawings and being able to locate needed information quickly and accurately.

To achieve the objective, I introduced axonometric views, orthographic projection techniques, and the elements comprised a complete set of professional drawing. A popular 3D drawing tool was also taught in this class. A lot of plan reading practice was completed throughout the semester to develop students' ability of locating needed information quickly and accurately.

BCN6036 Research Methods in Construction                                                              Fall 2014 - Spring 2017

This class aims to help graduate students with thesis formulation and writing. But, one of the most important part is to establish a research plan for data analysis. So, my responsibility was teaching some quantitative methods, specifically statistics. I independently created the materials to help student get a good understanding or recovery of some of the most inportant statistical methods. The topics includes basic probability theories and some common probability distributions, e.g., student - t, normal, Chi-square, F, Poisson, binomial distribution. To enhance students' understanding, some examples related to construction or our real-life were given in class. Based on that, I then introduced some most commonly used approaches for hypothesis test, including one-sample and two-sample cases, and listed the situations when it is appropriate to use which. Some exercise questions were assigned to students so as to boost their perception. To meet the needs in explanation and prediction, I covered ANOVA and regression analysis. For the sake of simplicity, a data analysis package was demonstrated to ease them use of the statistical tools. To reinforce the covered techniques, several quizzes were administered at the beinging of classes. At the end of this session, a test was given to evaluate students' understanding. The avarage scores of the two classes were 86 and 89 out of 100. Many students have given very positive feedback on my teaching style and the materials covered. Some students were inspired by this class and completed some high quality research.

Demonstrated a reference program - Refworks. Created some quizzes and homeworks about this program. To be more helpful, I also made some tutorials about Refworks in order to assist those who may forget the details after class, but need to organize their references for their theses and papers. In addition, I also graded the quizzes and exams. Hold office hours to answer students questions. Set up and maintain the course website on E-learning: Sakai and Canvas.
