n Active Vision for Control of
Agile Autonomous Flight (AVCAAF) (Current
Project)
Preamble: AVCAAF's
goals are to develop basic research and technologies, enabling unprecedented
capabilities for Micro Air Vehicles (MAVs) and small Unmanned Air Vehicles
(UAVs). Potential missions we are contemplating are search and rescue,
moving-target tracking, immediate bomb damage assessment, and identification
and localization of interesting ground structures. Collectively,
our team incorporates expertise in aerodynamics at small scales; rugged
design and fabrication of MAVs and small UAVs; flight test bed development;
mult-resolution filtering for adaptive bandwidth vision processing, feature
extraction and image denoising; real-time computer vision for control, image
segmentation, object recognition and detection, and 3D scene estimation;
real-time path planning in the face of uncertainty; and agile guidance,
navigation and control.

n Redesigning of Grinding Machine
Spindle to Maximise Bearing’s Life
Sponsor: SKF Bearings India Ltd
Preamble: The spindle had six precision bearings; the actual life of
the bearings was far less than the designed life of two years. Objective: To
improve the actual life of the bearings. Analysis:
It involved analyzing the failed bearings, studying the spindle design and
the grinding forces acting on it, analyzing the effect of external elements
on the bearing lubrication, measuring the vibration level, changing the
lubrication to mist oil lubrication, carrying out balancing of the modified
spindle. Results: Increase in the actual
bearing life by 300%, vibration level reduced by 94%. SKF Bearings India Ltd.
is now saving Rs.27,00,000 ($54,000) per year on the bearings cost. Also,
significant reduction in rejection because of higher dimensional accuracy due
to lower vibration levels. |
n Transportation
Devices – Vibrational and Rotational Transportation devices
Designed and manufactured the vibrational and rotational
transportation devices for material handling and transportation, which are
inevitable for an automated industry. Used digital interface to control the
process timings and movements. |
n Versatile
Fully Duplex Multistage Intercom System
Fully
duplex intercom system without the need for central operating system and can
serve to any number of substations. I did it for two substations. |
n Fire Alarm
System
Thermister element with amplifier to
provide both visual as well as audio alarm.
