Abstract

Many women today exercise daily to maintain weight or lose weight. Stretching is an important pre-exercise warm up. The goal to stretching is to prevent injury and to increase muscle-tendon flexibility. After you exercise you should always stretch. While stretching can promote flexibility, stretching too far actually can damage the muscles—particularly if you’re recovering from an injury. A healthy muscle can elongate up to 1.6 times its length but generally doesn’t respond well to that much stretching. By overstretching, you create an automatic myotatic reflex that actually will cause the muscle to recoil to protect itself from tearing and injury. Also, don’t bounce while stretching. Holding your stretch in a static position works best. In this video the piriformis muscle was stretched after the workout. The piriformis muscle is responsible for lateral rotation of the hip. It is particularly important to athletes who have to change direction, such as tennis players and running backs in football. Although runners run straight ahead, keeping the piriformis muscle loose is important for overall flexibility.

Critical Comments

1.      Balance: The video is good to use to show women how to stretch before and after they exercise.

2.      Depth: This video was a short video and was not the appropriate time to teach someone how to stretch. Stretching if done incorrectly or for too long could damage ones muscles.

3.      Purpose: The video will educate those briefly on how to stretch their piriformis muscle in the leg.

4.      Availability: The video was available online one day and not available at all the next week. The website that has the link to the video is down which is not good if women who are working out wanted to view it.

5.      Value: Workouts for Women is a well known company that encourages women to workout daily. There are services offered through this company.

6.      Efficient: The content of the video is not a waste of time. Everyone who works out with this company can use this video to help them stretch.

7.      Potential Audience: This resource can be used by gym instructor or people who exercise. The information will be used by a broad audience.

8.      Life: This will last as long as Work Out for Women website is available. People will always be interested in the video because exercising and stretching are important.

9.      Price: The resource is worth the price because it includes a workout with instructions.

10.  Content: The video is accurate teaching how to stretch. The video is also current because stretching the muscles will never change and it is also appropriate for women who work out.

11.  Interests: This video meets the interests of those who exercise and want to know how to stretch correctly.

12.   Approach: The language of the video is used for those who exercise. Stretching may use technical terms such as those referring to muscles.

13.  Technology: yes the quality of the video is clear. There are no skipping or missing parts.

14.  Sound Elements: the sound elements are effective
