Academic Interest
My major is Health Science Education with a specialization in Health Studies. I am currently classified as a senior and in the Spring of 2006, after only three years of study, I will graduate with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Health Science Education. In my opinion, the role of a physician far exceeds diagnosis and treatment. Physicians also function as educators and researchers. Although Health Science Education is not a traditional major for students interested in medicine, I feel my knowledge and course work in Health Science Education will allow me to serve as a better healthcare provider for my patients in the future. My research interests are rooted in HIV/AIDS. Driven by these interests, I am currently accessing the level of awareness of HIV/AIDS risk factors in older African American women. I am conducting this research as a Ronald E. McNair Scholar and under the direction of Dr. Virginia Dodd. |
