Abstract

Many athletes do not have access to a weight room, but are able to be monitored by a coach or can perform exercise at home. Because of this, Jeff Turner made for Fit2play numerous exercise videos which showed both that the athlete is doing the workout and that the exercises are being done with proper form. He based the fit2play system off of the fact that before weights are used, the body develops a solid base, using only body weight exercises. Lunge walks is a video which is used as a warm up for athletes. It is part of a circuit with 10 other warm-up videos. This video helps to show athletes how to properly do lunge walks. It follows two girl soccer players while they are doing lunge walks, and their coach is helping them to correct the things that they are doing wrong. An athlete can visually see what is being done, as an example for an exercise that they will later perform.

Critical Comments

1. Availability- the video is available on the website for free, along with other similar exercise videos

2. Value- the video has received lots of reviews from athletes who have explained how useful these videos are to them.

3. Purpose- the video is used to educate athletes who are trying to do these stretches, in this video in particular lunge walks.

4. Depth- The length of the video was quite short for its purpose. It could have gone a little longer then 16 seconds, and had more content explaining the exercise.

5. Authenticity- the content is accurate and correct, considering that it came from a well certified personal trainer.

6. Efficient- if you need to find an example of lunge walks, this video is perfect and quick to the point.

7. Appeal- the video is not that appealing to the audience. If someone wasn’t specifically looking for a lunge walk exercise, they would not watch this video and find it interesting.

8. Sound elements- I could not hear the background voice of the coach telling the girls how to correct their lunge walks as clearly. Sound needs to be up all the way to understand how to correct the mistakes.
