My Educational Philosophy
I believe strongly in learning through creating. Students who are able to navigate through a project, utilizing the full array of tools available to them, become well equipped to handle problems that require improvisation. It is important to teach students to take responsibility for their own education, as self-motivated learning is more meaningful and effective for the student. This also allows the teacher to become a partner with the student in the learning process, guiding the student down the path of knowledge instead of being a gatekeeper distributing facts and figures that have been selected as important. Students in a creative classroom coexist as teachers themselves, helping other students within their areas of strength. The growth of technology and its increasing availablity in the classroom makes the education system ripe for exploring and developing multiple learning styles. A focus on learning instead of teaching will prove the best way to tap into students' natural abilities and help build their interest in the learning process.
