Jason Rothman is an Associate Professor of Spanish and Linguistics in the Departments of Spanish and Portuguese Studies and Linguistics at the University of Florida. He is also Adjunct Professor of Hispanic Linguistics at the University of Ottawa. Prof. Rothman obtained his PhD from UCLA in 2005 and works primarily in the field of generative language acquisition. From 2005-2010, Prof. Rothman taught at the University of Iowa where he co-directed the University of Iowa SLA Lab. His research examines the cognitive processes of adult second language acquisition (SLA), adult multilingual (L3/Ln) acquisition, heritage language acquisition, child first language acquisition as well as comparative SLA theory epistemology and sociolinguistic studies of language and identity. His main research program investigates the acquisition of complex syntax and semantics pertaining to the Determiner Phrase (DP), subjunctive modality, properties of Control, pronominal objects and subjects, as well as grammatical and lexical aspect. Recent articles have appeared in Applied Linguistics, EuroSLA Yearbook, International Review of Applied Linguistics (IRAL), International Journal of Bilingualism, Language Acquisition, Journal of Pragmatics, Hispania, Lingua, Second Language Research and Studies in Second Language Acquisition among other journals.
