Academic Interest

My academic interest lays primarily in working with the community in a health related setting, either educating or administering aid. Ideally, in the future I will help in reducing the number of fatalities from preventable diseases. I am also interested in ensuring that people have the knowledge of how to, or of the resources available to manage or avoid many of the diseases present today.

3-Year Career Plan

During my final undergraduate semester at the University of Florida in Spring 2009, I will be an intern at the Diabetes Center of Excellence at Shands University of Florida. While interning, I plan to obtain my certified health education specialist (CHES) credential.

After graduating with my Bachelor of Science in Health Education in May 2009, I plan to attend graduate school, preferably in the state of Florida. I will pursue a Masters in Public Health, focusing on community health or social and behavioral sciences.

In my final six months of graduate school I will obtain an internship with the Centers for Disease Control, National Institutes of Health, National Cancer Institute or a public health department to utilize the knowledge and skills I have learned throughout my graduate program. From this internship I hope to serve the community and aid in reducing the number of deaths from preventable diseases.

After graduating from my public health graduate program, I will obtain employment with either the agency I interned with, or another favorable opportunity. At the end of these three years I will be a public health educator or administrator working in the government sector.
