Sun

The mission of the Sun Usability Labs is to serve the product development teams however they are also available for hire from outside customers. They utilize a variety of methodologies for testing based on the type of product and goals of the test. Those methods include but are not limited to field studies, competitive analysis, contextual inquiry, surveys, focus groups, participatory design, exploratory lab studies, and expert evaluations.

Usability Lab Facilities

  • 22' x 24' lab with observation/control room, three digital cameras, scan converter, and two-way audio; three output videotapes include picture-in-a-picture image.
  • 14' x 18' lab with observation/control room, two digital cameras, scan converter, and two-way audio plus battery-operated headset; three output videotapes include picture-in-a-picture image.
  • 11' x 19' lab with observation/control room, three analog cameras, scan converter, and two-way audio; five output videotapes include composite (quad) image.
  • Recent-model Sun SPARC systems and Intel-based PCs.
  • Non-linear video editing with CD, Betacam, SVHS, VHS, or Sony digital output.
