Welcome to my domain. From Sax-facts to Sax-lore, it’s all right here.

The Saxophone was first invented by Adolfe Sax in around 1840 to serve the needs of the orchestras. Brass instruments could play with a large sound, but not anything technically challenging or fast. The contemporary woodwind instruments could play exceedingly difficult passages, but had no volume. The Saxophone (as usual) was the solution, being the best of both worlds.

The Sax family is larger than most people think, consisting of nine basic horns. From smallest to largest, the members include the Soprillo, the Sopranino, the Soprano, the Alto, the Tenor, the Baritone, the Bass, the Contrabass, and the Subcontrabass which is also referred to as the "Tubax" due to its extremely low range. Here are some images, in order, of the family, compliments in part of Xtreme Saxes, whose link is on my Fun Links Page.
