Scary Moment In Rural California
I was laughing so hard -- admittedly to a part that on its face really isn't super-hilarious -- that I seriously could not keep my eyes open to see the road...NOT a good thing when you're going 80 mph down the interstate. I had to reach over and turn off the stereo for a good 5 minutes while I calmed down, so as to avoid crashing into another car.
It's actually very scary, in a 1984 kind of way, how much of Al Franken's Why Not Me? (a satirical look at his supposed 2000 campaign for and election as President, and the reason for my laughing fit) sounds like stuff the actual Republicans did this last year. The part that was making me laugh so hard, was Al Franken's brother (Otto) following around Al Gore with a giant foam hat that says "Eat Me", in response to a comment Gore made about eating his hat if anyone could prove that any of his campaign funds came from ATM fees (Franken's BIG campaign issue).
Sound to anyone like the goons dressed up as giant foam flip-flops the media would show at (it seemed) every Kerry event?

hey Mark!
I'm sorry this has taken so long for me to write, I had a little biking accident last week and missed a couple days at work! Anyway, here are some sushi recommendations:
Sushi at North Beach located on Columbus. It's super, super delicious-- however it is a bit pricey-- it was our special occasion sushi and was always worth it.
Sushi Zone off of Market street, kind of near Valencia. Also good, super small though and a little bit more affordable, has a strong cult following.
Minako is off of missionst near 18th and is very, very good also, it is very vegetarian friendly and the fish is very high quality and the portions are generous. This place is owned and run by a mother daughter combo and can be a little slow -the mom prepares ALL of the food.
There are a lot of trendy places that are just fine: Sushi Zone, Tokyo a Go Go, Blowfish, and Tsunami, these places all have decent food but really rely on their non-traditional atmosphere to draw folks there.
The new Ferry building at the end of Market street is a neat place to visit if you guys have time. There are a lot of places to get little snacks as well as a wine bar, cheese market, and tea house. There are also a lot of little specialty food places.
Here is just a list of great places in general and what they're good for:
King of Thai-- cheap, good, late night Thai food
Axum-- ethiopian food
Pakwan-- Awesome Indian/Pakistani food-- pretty affordable too
Taiwan off of Clement st-- kick ass Taiwanese food- this place rocks and can be ridiculously cheap-- oftentimes we have been the only non-Chinese folks there!
Last Super Club- California Italian-- I thought this place was going to just be another trendy restaurant, but I've always had excellent food here, it's moderately priced.
Mitchell's Ice Cream, Mission and 30th- I know it probably won't be warm enough, but it's a local haunt.
Hemlock-- good bar- has bands that you can pay extra to go into the other room to see, a little bit of a scene, but it's the rocker and scenester pock rockers that you'll find, can be good for people watching.
That's probably way more than you wanted to know and I could go on forever. Hope you have fun!
Ohh, Amoeba, in the East Bay and in SF, is probably the best independent music store in the country.
