This site is dedicated to teaching new players and those interested in the game of rugby how to make a tackle and be tackled in a game.
I will go through the different types of tackles that can be made, and give a brief description of the steps used to complete said tackle. I will also give real examples of when each tackle can be used in a game. I will employ the use of photos and soundslides to depict the do's and don'ts of the fabulous act we know as tackling.
At the bottom of some pages, you will find advice from current and former members of the University of Florida's own Women's Rugby Football Club team. The club has had recent success, winning their conference last Spring semester and traveling to compete in Nationals in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
I hope that the way the information is presented in steps with accompanying photos helps new players to better understand the steps used to make a successful tackle.
Briana O'Sullivan is a third-year Journalism major and has played rugby for three years at the University of Florida with the women's club team. If the reader has doubts as to how hardcore she is, and whether or not to trust her advice about tackling, consider this: She broke her collar bone making a tackle in a game against UNC. True story. Actually, the X-ray featured to your left is from the Emergency Room she went to. She is currently on sabbatical from rugby, though acknowledges that the sport is her first and only love.
