The Dump Tackle

Uses:

In a game, when you are feeling particulary aggressive and can get a good handle on your opponent, a dump tackle can be used.

This tackle is particularly taxing on the person you are tackling, as the end result is you slamming the person on the ground on their back. But, rugby is a brutal game, and really, if they wanted an easy sport they should have taken up tennis.

It can be considered to be dangerous play in a game of rugby, but referees can be forgiving and allow such moves. Dump tackles are also a notorious crowd pleaser.

How to:

Step 1

First, get low into the good body position previously described. It is very important to keep this body position in every tackle that you make, as it protects you from getting hurt and makes the tackle itself easier.

Step 2:

Then, as you are pulling your opponent's legs at the thigh in, as you would in a side tackle, pop them up. Do this by lifting the player while keeping your feet firmly planted on the ground.

Step 3:

After you have popped the tacklee up, forcibly drive them to the ground. You can do this by leading with a shoulder to the ground. You must follow through with the tackle by going with your opponent to the ground. If you do not do this, the tackle becomes a spear tackle.
