Sightings

    The skunk ape has most commonly been spotted all over south central Florida. It's natural habitat is the everglades or similar swampy areas. However It has also been spotted in other locations all around the the southeastern states. these sightings can help and hinder in the research of the skunk ape. All accounts must be carefully scrutinized and cross referenced with other accounts to determine their validity. They help in the respect that they can give information about migratory and the range of the species. The most compelling evidence is the Myakka pictures (featured on the right) These are photos from Sarasota Florida by an anonymous source. The letter which accompanied the pictures explained that the ape was rummaging through her garden and when she realized it wasn't a raccoon she ran out and took pictures. These have yet to be falsified and provide lots of information about the anatomy of the skunk ape. The testimonies themselves display just as much help and hindrance as the locations they are in. this information casts many different lights on the nature of the skunk ape. according to claims the skunk ape ranges from 6 to 10 feet tall and color ranges from jet black to a deep red coat of fur. They have been described as harry men and also as ghastly monsters more akin to a werewolf than an ape. Here are several of the more famous accounts:

    "I heard the orangutan walk off into the brushes. It had an awful smell and was making deep "woomp" noises. For two nights prior, it had been taking apples that my daughter brought down from up north off our back porch. We live near I-75 and I'm afraid this orangutan could cause a serious accident if someone hit it."

    "I noticed something in the ditch I looked over And I guess it noticed me. It rose up. It was focused maybe getting frogs. His eyes were serious. When he saw me he was as suprized as I was. I slowed down to a stop. It was almost dark but I got a good look at him."

    "Reports from eyewitnesses are varied. But the creature seems to fall into the category of Large, Scary, Ape-like Creature. The average size seems to be around 8 feet tall. Average weight is about 600 lbs. or so. The skunkape is usually covered in dark stringy hair. Black, brown and red are the most commonly reported hair colors. Long arms are typical as is less hair on the face. Glowing eyes are not uncommon."
