Misson:
Our
mission is to advance lactation
education through leadership, advocacy, professional development, and
research,
and to increase the incidence and duration of breastfeeding in
low-income
minority populations through comprehensive education of health
professionals.
Vision:
Babies
and Mothers, Inc. envisions
developing a worldwide network of health educators who promote
breastfeeding
education by reaching out to health professionals and encouraging them
to be
actively involved in recruiting low-income minority families to
breastfeed.
Goals:
- BAM
aims to provide health professionals with comprehensive, current, and
culturally appropriate information so they understand how to target
low-income minority families.
- BAM
will endeavor to provide low-income families with breastfeeding
knowledge and skills so they desire to advocate breastfeeding.
§
BAM plans to promote the understanding that
interagency cooperation between hospitals and public health programs in
necessary to reach breastfeeding families in need.
Objectives:
- BAM
will update educational materials every 90 days so health professionals
who are associated with BAM will identify the need for current and
culturally appropriate information.
- 10%
of low-income minority mothers will understand the importance of
breastfeeding.
- At
least one private or public health facility will sponsor a support
group for low-income minority families who are breastfeeding.
Our Slogan
The
slogan of Babies and Mothers
Incorporated is “Impacting the Future through Breastfeeding Education.”
BAM
educates health professionals about the importance of promoting
breastfeeding
in low-income minority families through continuing education seminars.
Often,
health professionals attend continuing education seminars, listen to a
lecture,
collect their continuing education credits, return home, and promptly
forget
everything they heard. BAM will attempt
to impact these health professionals
by involving them in their education through four workshops that
include
innovative activities and provide creative promotional items. Furthermore, BAM will also illustrate the impact that breastfeeding can have on
babies, mothers, families, and even communities.
