An Adventure with

Time: One-Two class periods Time: Two-Three class periods
Materials:
8.5 x 20" heavy paper or card stock
pencils, markers, crayons
family pictures
stories
white glue or glue stick

scissors


Procedure:
• Fold 8.5x20 paper using an accordion fold to create 4 pointed mountains and 4 valleys.
• Students create images and stories about their family on the pages of their book
 

Procedure:
• Talk about art. Look at images created by Romare Bearden. Talk about the artist and his collage techniques - What materials did he use? What stories did he tell? (simplify if necessary for the younger grades)
• Gather materials
• Draw a rough sketch
• Create

Variations:
• Fill book pages with one color linocut prints based on a family theme
• Older children can experiment with pop-up pages
