Volunteer Services:

Upward Bound Program at the University of Florida:

I volunteered as a mentor for the Upward Bound program at the University of Florida (UF) during the fall semester of 2009. As a mentor, I helped to prepare and guide low income students for placement into college. Each mentor was assigned two mentees that we were responsible for during the semester. The mentees were required to attend classes at UF and as mentors we were required to contact our mentees on a weekly basis to make sure that they were doing well in school. As a mentor, I also served as a resource for any questions that they may have about classes, college and even personal life.

Jamaican American Student Association (JAMSA)

I am currently the Assistant Secretary for the Jamaican-American Student Association (JAMSA) from Fall 2009- Spring 2010. JAMSA aims to promote and share the Jamaican culture with those who are interested by having meetings, socials, community service, forums and conferences. As the Assistant Secretary, I am responsible for sending reminders about events, updating the listserv and making the calendar of events.

Munroe Regional Medical Center LifeTime Center

Starting in the Spring of 2010, I will be a part-time intern at Munroe Regional Medical Center LifeTime Wellness in Ocala. As an intern I will be responsible for performing health risk appraisals, providing information on how to change risk facts and making a corporate wellness report. I will also be responsible for working with at risk and post-op patients in the cardiopulmonary rehab through monitoring their blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen consumption.
