Case Study #3: Broken Clay Animals

This case study was offered by Cheryl, an elementary art teacher.

Some years back, when I was teaching on the cart, I was rolling down the hallway with fired clay projects for a fourth grade class. A student called out a hello in passing me, and I turned my head to respond. Unfortunately, the cart and I didn't make the turn in the hallway in time, and clay animals were EVERYWHERE and in pieces! What to do? I knew the students would be SO disappointed. I had no other supplies on the cart to do a substitute lesson, and I was due in their classroom immediately. I scooped up as much as I could find in reasonable pieces.

How would you handle this situation? What would you tell the children?
