Grooveshark is an online music sharing community based in Gainesville. They are planning to go live in Fall 2007.
The community allows users to download music and receive credit for uploading music they already have towards the cost of music they want to buy. Users can share playlists, review and rate music, and chat with others who share their interests.
Music recommendations are based on similar artists and genres as well as user-based recommendations.
The tracks on Grooveshark will be available under a Creative Commons license which requires attribution and prohibits commercial uses. This allows users to download music and share it with anyone, put it on any music player, or listen to it from a computer without restrictions.
Musicians are encouraged to share their music on Grooveshark, where they will receive a portion of the revenue for each song download.
