Academic Interests Ever since I was a little girl, I have been interested in the health field. Upon coming to the University of Florida, I have gained an interest in health areas including: Nutrition, Physical Fitness, Drug Education, Emotional Health, and Physiology. In terms of hands on experience, I have volunteered at the 94-IMC and the Pediatric Unit at Shands Hospital. That experience solidified my interest in wanting to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. I hope to take the knowledge that I’ve acquired, through my Health Science courses and experience at the hospital, to a higher degree of education in graduate school. Beyond that, I aspire to always be able to administer health care to those who are disadvantaged and in need. 3-Year Career Plan My experience thus far at the University of Florida has been one of academic growth. I am grateful that I received the opportunity to experience so many areas of interests such as extra-curricular activities, volunteering, a culturally diverse population, and being surrounded by individuals who have a desire to learn. This upcoming school year (2005-2006) I will complete my last semester of Health Science Education courses. In the spring of 2006, I hope to do an internship with pediatric nurse practitioners at a local hospital in Gainesville. Creating wellness programs, which are geared towards children, is an endeavor that I wish to pursue. I prepare to graduate with a Bachelors of Science in Health Science Education in the spring of 2006. Following that, I will apply to an accelerated program for nursing to receive my Bachelors of Science in Nursing. My long-term goal is to attend graduate school to receive my Masters of Science in Nursing (ARNP). When I look at the “big picture” for my life, ultimately I want to travel to third world countries and aid individuals in health care. It would also be a dream to open a free children’s clinic in the U.S., in the hopes that underprivileged children can receive adequate health care. In essence, I want to be able to utilize my strengths as a health care professional to impact the lives of those who cross my path in life.
