AGP slot

board

AGP means accerated gaphics port, or you just memorize it as display card slot is enough. AGP display card also has different formats in terms of data transfer rate. Most people are using AGP 4X display cards, some old computer owners might use the early version, AGP 2X. Only the fanatical game lovers would go out to buy an AGP 8X card to play their calculation-intensive 3D games. At this moment, it is not easy to buy a motherboard comes with AGP 8X slot even you can afford an AGP 8X display card. No matter you are a game lover or not, here are some hints you might benefit:

1. Update your display card driver by downloading the latest driver from the respective display card manufacturer's websites. Many "hidden" functions will be released when new driver is installed.

2. Download the latest DirectX driver from Microsoft, it does help increase the display speed somewhat. Current version is 9.0a.

3. Enable the "Fast write" and "Side band addressing" options if you have or if you can in the Bios menu.

4. Display card can also be "overclocked" independently. Most people do so by using a software called Powerstrip.

5. Display card has its own Bios, that means it can also be updated. But I recommend you not! Last but not least, be VERY careful with the voltage of some early AGP display cards, those antiques are likely to be 3.3V, and most modern motherboards equip with a 1.5V AGP slot. The tricky thing is those old cards can always be fitted in those new boards. Matrox G400 is a good example of this situation. If you plug it in and turn on your PC, God bless you.
