The United States today has a very big problem on its hands. As technology advances and we become more and more dependent on it, we also need more and more fuel to power it. Unfortunately along with this need for fuel comes some problems.
Our primary fuel in the United States is Gasoline. Gasoline powers everything from cars to heaters. But our extensive use of gasoline is causing many problems. One of the foremost affected areas is our environment. When we get power from gasoline we also give off many by-products. These by-products include: Carbon Monoxide, a gas that is poisonous; Nitrogen Oxides, which are the main sources of smog in our big cities today; and Unburned Hydrocarbons, which are gasses which cause many problems with our ozone layer. One of the most serious by-products of gasoline use is Carbon Dioxide, this is a greenhouse gas that is incredibly damaging to our atmosphere.

So is it too late? Has too much damage already been done? The answer is NO! Many advances are being made in the field of Alternative Fuels that will help out alot. First we will look at what gasoline is, and the problems it causes, then we will see some of the alternatives that are being developed.
