By July 2007, Spain’s population had grown to more than 45 million residents and had a literacy rate of about 98 percent. A diverse country, Spain’s citizens cannot be typecast. Traveling throughout Spain, tourists will note the difference ethnic groups and variances in language throughout its different regions. Distinct ethnic groups include Galician, Castilian, Basques and Catalan. More than half of Spain's population is between the ages of 15- and 67-years-old; the median age for men 39 and for women 41.7. At birth, Spaniards are estimated to live about 80 years, with men averaging 76.46 years and women averaging 83.32 years. Spain has charm and the atmosphere.

Spectacular Vernaculars

About 74 percent of the population speaks the official language, Spanish. However, it isn’t the only language spoken in the country. Seventeen percent of the population speaks Catalan-Valenciana and 7 percent speak Galician. English is also spoken by many; however trying a new language is always entertaining.

Faith and Follow

About 94 percent of Spaniards are Roman Catholic. Minority religions include Protestant and Islamic faiths.
