BASEBALL FEVER IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC HAS BEGUN
SANTO DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC--From October to January, the Dominican Republic is home to the Dominican Republic Baseball Games. Games are played at the Quisqueya Stadium in the country’s capital, Santo Domingo, and at stadiums throughout the island in Santiago, La Romana and San Pedro de Macoris.
Several teams participate in the games. They include: Leon del Escogido Santo Domingo Estrellas Oreintales San Pedro de Macoris, Aguilas Cibaenas Santiago, Azucareros del Este La Romana, Pollos Nacionales San Francisco de Macoris and Tigers del Licey Santo Domingo.
The winning team at the end of the season plays against other Latin countries for the Caribbean World Series. Scouts from Major League Baseball teams attend this event to find potential players.
