Catching

Raney catching

Catching is an essential part of the game of fastpitch softball. It is often one of the first skills developed by a young player. Catching involves the ball inside of the glove and the player holding on to it. One of the key details that most young players forget is keeping their eye on the ball. Using two-hands, whether in the infield or the outfield, is a good habit to develop. The other hand acts a saftey net against any mishaps with the ball popping out of the glove. While different players may catch a little differently, normally depending on their position, the basic fundamentals remain the same.
