Put Me in Coach!
There are nine positions to be filled on a softball field. The infielders consist of the pitcher, catcher, first, second and third basemen and the shortstop. The outfielders consist of the left, center and right fielder. Although the pitcher and catcher have the ball the most, each person has a specific job.
A softball diamond is basically a smaller version of a baseball diamond. The distance from the pitching rubber to home plate is 43 feet versus 60 and a half feet in baseball. The bases are 60 feet apart versus baseball's 90. The ball is delivered from a circle with no degree of slope, level with the rest of the field. As there is no actual "mound," this area is referred to as the pitcher's circle.
