Dr. Stein's Current Consultations in Japan
I am Gerald H. Stein, MD, FACP. My clinical teaching
in Japan started in December 1992. For 7.5 years I
instructed residents and visiting medical students at
Kameda Medical Center, Kamogawa, Chiba, Japan, a community
based teaching hospital, teaching basic clinical skills,
lecturing to residents and consulting with staff
physicians about general internal medicine topics.
My appointment was as director of medical education and
professor-in-residence. During those many years, I was
pleased to be invited to teach and consult usually once
monthly at several other distinguished academic-oriented
hospitals in Japan.
Additionally I completed a 5 month assignment for
the University of Hawaii at their affiliate Okinawa Chubu
Hospital, ending in June 2000, when I returned to my home
in Gainesville Florida USA.
From 2000 to 2019, I returned to Japan two times yearly to
teach and consult at many medical universities and
community teaching hospitals. Most recently 2019/06 I led
PBL seminars at Chubu Rosai Hospital, Nagoya 2nd Red Cross
Hospital, Shonan Kamakura Hospital, Kariya Toyota
Hospital, Toyota Memorial Hospital, Kyoto Min-iren Chuo
Hospital, Daido Hospital, Nagoya Memorial Hospital, and
was an invited lecturer at the annual meeting of the
American College of Physicians-Japan Chapter, where I
received the Sakura Award.
I had been faculty in Tokyo at the Noguchi Medical
Research Institute's medical education seminars and
externship selection programs since 11/2001, most recently
12/2010; summer, 2011, I served as faculty for the
Noguchi ‘Summer Medical School,’ held at Juntendo Medical
University. Lastly I had conducted infectious diseases
emergencies lectures with Dr. Aoki Makoto twice yearly
from 2005 to 2016 when I consult at Nagoya Chubu Rosai
Hospital.
The Covid-19 pandemic international travel
restrictions forced me to cancel my June 2000 Japanese
teaching tour. At the kind invitation of Dr, Nobu Marui,
Nagoya Chubu Rosai Hospital, I resumed my clinical
teaching via Zoom videoconferences, from my home office to
this excellent community teaching hospital. Subsequently,
I received more invitations for Zoom teaching. Please
access my current teaching schedule on my Home
Page.
In the interim I enjoy attending my weekly Zoom lectures
in many clinical departments at the College of Medicine,
University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida. In addition I
serve as physician manuscript reviewer to several
international medical journals.
