Test and Tune

Test and Tune events at the Gainesville Raceway have been going on since the raceway first opened, but that's for drag racing. The Test and Training Road Course has recently been opened to Test and Tune events of its own. Without the hassles and slow pace that is normally associated with SCCA autocrosses and other small-scale track events, Test and Tune allows drivers to make runs on the road course as quickly as possible, without much waiting in between. For each session, drivers line up in the starting grid, make a lap around the road course, and get back in line to continue running. Drivers are allowed to "test and tune" their cars in these consecutive, untimed runs. Within a session, drivers are able to make as many as 15 runs in a single session--over three times as many runs a driver might get in a traditional autocross event.

These events have two sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Session A is from 8am to 12 noon and session B is from 1pm to 5pm. The cost for each session is $30, or you can participate in both sessions for $50. Crew and spectators are $5 each for admission. The course layout will change for the afternoon session, offering a challenge to both inexperienced and veteran drivers.

All drivers must have a DOT helmet (Snell M95 or newer) and pass a basic technical inspection. Racecars must meet Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) standards. Course times are not provided, so please bring a friend and a stopwatch if you want to record your own lap times.

Upcoming Test and Tune dates: May 13, 2006
