What To Do
While Crossville isn't exactly a metropolis, there are a lot of fun things to do.
Known as the "Golf Capital of Tennessee," Crossville has more than seven golf courses in town and surrounding areas. My family usually stays in a nearby town called Fairfield Glade, which is a golf community. My family is very into golf, and a personal favorite course is Deer Creek.
Another area of interest is the Cumberland County Playhouse.
Theatre is one of my favorite areas of entertainment, and I haven't been disappointed with any show I've seen at the Playhouse.
Its annual showcase of "Smoke on the Mountain" is a Playhouse classic about the historical Crossville Homestead. If you go, you should
definitely see it, but any show there is good! I've seen great renditions of "Annie Get Your Gun" and "Steel Magnolias" to name a couple.
And of course, a visit to Crossville isn't complete without a trip to the Cumberland Mountain State Park! The park offers camping, hiking trails, fishing, swimming, canoeing and much more. There is also a park restaurant that has a buffet every day with soft serve ice cream. I suggest going on a Friday because it's Fish Fry Friday! It's all-you-can-eat catfish with all the Southern fixin's!
Just about an hour southwest of Crossville, Fall Creek Falls State Park in Pikeville is another must-see location.
Friday and Saturday nights in Crossville are particularly interesting because all of the young people like to "cruise" down Main Street. You don't really do much except drive about 15 miles per hour with your windows down, waving at anyone you even remotely recognize. It may sound silly, but it's a lot of fun! After cruising, you're likely to end up at the Sonic Drive-In, Walmart or the Kroger parking lot because those are the places to be and be seen!
