Research

In my research, I cover a breadth of fields in search of unexplored connections and networks of influence under the broad umbrella of media studies, including comics, children's literature, game studies, queer theory, fandom studies, film, the avant-garde, and television studies.

My thesis examined the fan music video as an artistic and technological object, and considered the interrelation of context, reception, structure, combinatorial narrative, and the form's traditions.

My dissertation focuses on the 'mashup aesthetic': an approach to art production and consumption that recalls earlier collage and montage practices but through a lens of new media. The fields considered are the fan music video, sampling and the musical mashup, avant-garde film, and collage and other appropriative fine arts.
