The Public Policy

The Need to Transition to Clean Renewable Energies

The public policy I have chosen is the need to transition to clean renewable energies. I believe that it is essential for the United States (and the world for that matter) to begin to move from fossil fuel based sources of energy to new sources which are better for the environment and decrease our reliance on foreign oil. It is a public policy which is very much based in reality and is currently being explored by politicians on both sides of the aisle. There are a great number of potential sources of renewable energy, but I have chosen to focus specifically on four. These are solar energy, wind energy, wave/tidal power, and biomass. These sources are perhaps the cleanest and are regarded by science as having some of the most potential. In laying out my public policy I will first explore the main problem associated with fossil fuel based sources of energy which is global warming. Next, I will focus on the four renewable sources detailing the concept and potential of each one. Following that I will briefly describe the current status of my public policy and make recommendations for how to broaden its appeal in the future.
