Lesson Self-Evaluation

I enjoyed my lesson tenure at Lincoln Middle School. This lesson went fairly well. As far as completing the objectives listed in the lesson plan, for every aspect of the lesson that was covered, each objective was met. In retrospect, I wish I had listened more as I have in previous lessons to more aspects of what was going on in the ensemble and changing the direction of my lesson. Overall, the students listened very well and volunteered answers and raised their hands. There were many times during the lesson when I allowed the students to get away with mediocrity and I could have asked more of the students in the performance standards, more specifically with attacks and releases, sustaining of notes/pitches, and balance, although balance was addressed later on in the lesson. I did not hold the students accountable for all of the various aspects I was asking them about throughout the lesson. I tried to make sure I gave continuous praise, however there may have been a couple of times when I gave praise where it was not due. I definitely need to work on giving praise when it is deserved and not when it is not earned. I could also try not to spend so much time on certain aspects of a lesson and move more fluidly through the lesson, from objective to objective. Overall, in comparison to my other lessons, this was a mediocre one. I have had much better lessons throughout the course of the last couple of weeks.
