Music technology ClassDescription of Assignment
This class was created in an effort to make music students more computer literate. This class also introduced various music programs that will become beneficial in our professional careers; programs ranging but not limited to composing/arranging, media clipping/editing, and music creating programs. The music technology course demonstrates Accomplished Practice #12 in the following ways:
Uses learning media, computer applications, and other technology to enhance instruction in music
Provides students with appropriate hands-on experiences with technology in learning music
Assumes a proactive attitude toward technological developments in music and music instruction
Artistic Processes/Medium
There are many opportunities to create in this class; ranging from, but not limited to, creating musical compositions in a variety of instrumentation variants, but also creating an individual and unique melody and adding accompaniment and different backgrounds in the form of a MIDI composition.
Rationale
This class demonstrates the use of technology in the fact that it was based around musical technology, not only in the classrooms, but possible programs that will appear in the music environments that we will work in.
Illustration
Throughout the course of the semester, programs were covered that helped create and edit various types of music; everything from sheet to audio music. The students are required to replicate various piece of sheet music in order to become acquainted with the various aspects of different composition programs. They are also given the opportunity to create their own MIDI audio file with an audio creation program.
