Type of Assignment
It is the job of the teacher to differentiate his/her role from that of the student. This is a lesson plan geared toward sixth grade students at Lincoln Middle School.
Description of Assignment
A lesson was taught at Lincoln Middle Elementary School in an effort to become more acquainted with teaching an actual class, as opposed to teaching ones peers and having them act as though they were in middle school; real life representative on-the-job training. The students of MUE 3330 are required to create a lesson plan in which they are given examples of previous lesson plans but have the freedom to choose what subject matter and content they wish to cover in their lessons, as long as it adheres to the direction the music teacher wishes to go. The students then prepare visual aids and whatever other materials they need to be able to engage the class and teach as if they were the teachers in the class. This lesson plan demonstrates Accomplished practice #11 in the following ways:
Models appropriate behavior as teacher and musician
Considers instruction in music as part of the larger educational effort of the school
Uses specific directions at appropriate times
Serves as a guide to students developing musical understandings and skills
Artistic Processes/Medium
This is a creating example in which the students of MUE 3330 are required to create lesson plans and use their plans to teach an actual secondary institution class. The role of the teacher is shown in the way the teachers interact with the students. By creating quiet signs and other tools for discipline in the classroom, the college students differentiate themselves from the students and show who is in charge of the class. This example demonstrates Accomplished practice #11 in that in order to get the students to react to the teacher, he/she has to set the example. By giving specific instructions, the teacher also keeps the children following the guidelines of the lesson plan, also establishing their superior role to the students.
Rationale
This example serves this illustration because it is a good case in which there is a need to differentiate between teacher and student. By creating quiet signs and other tools for discipline in the classroom, the college students differentiate themselves from the students and show who is in charge of the class. this example demonstrates the accomplished practice in that in order to get the students to react to the teacher, he/she has to set the example. By giving specific instructions, the teacher also keeps the children following the guidelines of the lesson plan, also establishing their superior role to the students.
