It is the job of the teacher to differentiate his/her role from that of the student. This is a lesson plan geared toward Kindergarten students at P.K. Younge Elementary School.

Description of Assignment

We were teaching a lesson at P.K. Younge Elementary School in an effort to become more acquainted with teaching an actual class, as opposed to teaching ones peers and having them act as though they were in elementary school; real life representative on-the-job training. The students of MUE 3311 are required to create a lesson plan in which they are given examples of previous lesson plans and the aspect of music they are supposed to cover on their time to teach, i.e. rhythms, sons on sol-mi-do, 'America', etc. The students then prepare visual aids and whatever other materials they need to be able to engage the class and teach as if they were the teachers in the class. This lesson plan demonstrates Accomplished practice #11 in the following ways:

Artistic Processes/Medium

This is a creating example in which the students of MUE 3311 are required to create lesson plans and use their plans to teach an actual elementary class. The role of the teacher is shown in the way the teachers interact with the students. By creating quiet signs and other tools for discipline in the classroom, the college students differentiate themselves from the students and show who is in charge of the class. this example demonstrates the accomplished practice in that in order to get the students to react to the teacher, he/she has to set the example. By giving specific instructions, the teacher also keeps the children following the guidelines of the lesson plan, also establishing their superior role to the students.

Rationale

This example serves this illustration because it is a good case in which there is a need to differentiate between teacher and student.
