It would seem likely for me to compare myself with the Doctor since that is the profession in which I am aspiring to become. His personality however is hardly representative of a doctor today. Dr. Battius is more accurately labeled as a gentlemen scientist, similar to a Darwin or Buffon. To these men scientific exploration was a noble cause, one beyond monetary compensation. This is Battius, the intellectual, the theoretician, the scientist. He is not the family physician that Cooper (although appropriate for the time) has made him out to be. It is instead the supposedly unlearned Trapper who shows the characteristics most similar to that of a medical doctor of today.
