Rationality, confidence, compassion; these are all characteristics required by medical doctors of today and the Trapper possess them all.   Decision-making is paramount in medicine and this is the area in which Trapper excels the most. Throughout the book the Trapper is constantly getting those in his reach out of every conceivable danger on the plans.   On several occasions the Trapper plays the diplomat of his group negotiating safely through hostile confrontations.   Instead of turning to combat as the Bee-hunter so often attempts, the Trapper always manages to calm the situation.
