Major Trends and Tips of American College Fashion

What I observe about American college fashion is that everyone seems to be so comfortable in their own style – they know exactly what suits them and how to wear it well. To me, American college fashion is all about finding out what suits you and looking good in it, instead of always being swayed by the catwalks. But it's important in the U.S to dress for the occasion.

Casual School Wear

casual

Americans get a lot of flack from Europeans about being "boring" in fashion, but I love its comfortable and effortless simplicity. Fashion in America colleges is not so much about what you wear, but more about how you wear it. American college girls love simple pieces, such as tees or tanks with jean shorts, or they wear dress with a cardigan. They are good at make their own styles by choosing different patterns and colors (See the image above ).

tips
  • Invest in key pieces.

The above picture lists items every college girl should own and I think these pieces are essential to have an easy-to-navigate wardrobe for daily school life and enough for living in Gainesville. For example, during summer, you can choose the blue tanks with shorts and pink flip-flops. During warm winter of Gainesville, you can choose tank and the plaid shirt with the sporty jacket. For the bottom, go with the jeans and the boots. These pieces are the ones you can easily mix and match to create something new and fun, without having to constantly shop for new clothes.

Business Casual Wear

It is common to see girls wearing Business Casual on campus. This is a more relaxed version of "Professional Dress", it could be your internship outfit to wear in the office, for some interviews and networking events. Basically, business casual is a shirt with a collar and/or a sweater, khakis or dress pants and a nice pair of shoes for women. Women can also wear a moderate length dress or skirt (key: knee-length or longer!).
