I am Shannen Mirarchi and I am a bilingual reporter and anchor for Noticias WUFT. I am a student at the University of Florida, studying Telecommunications and I have a great passion to tell the stories of others. Those in need to be heard and those in need to have the light shine on them. I am Argentine and Cuban with a Spanish and Italian heritage. I love my diverse cultural background and I pride myself on the fact that I am Latina and bilingual. It’s a blessing and I am so ready to graduate and conquer the world.

My dream is to work for the biggest Spanish Network right now, Univision. I interned for them my freshman year of college. I had the best experience with them that allowed me to know for sure what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. We worked with a show that was titled “Ahora en Nuestra Comunidad” which is translated to “Now in Our Community” and it basically featured stories about average people in our community that have struggles like any average person and are featured for the world to see.

I also had a life-changing experience with StoryCorps. I came to know of StoryCorps through an interview with one of the booth facilitators during one of my projects with Noticias and came to understand what it was and how special this documentation is. StoryCorps is basically radio recordings of interviews that are later archived to the National Library of Congress. After meeting them in person they suggested I worked for them and I am ecstatic to apply and see where my career in media and communications will take me.

Soy Shannen Mirarchi y la reportera y co-presentadora de Noticias WUFT. Soy una estudiante de la Universidad de la Florida y estoy estudiando Telecomunicaciones y español. Mi padre es argentino y mi madre es cubana, también con raíces españoles e italianos. Me fascina que sea bilingüe y soy bien orgullosa por ser Latina y bi-cultural. Me fascina encontrar historias que tiene el derecho de estar en la luz y ser escuchados. Estoy bien lista para graduarme y conquistar el mundo.

Mi sueño es trabajar para la compañía de medios en español más grandes del momento, Univision. Yo hice una pasantilla con ellos mi primer año en la universidad. Tuve la mejor experiencia de mi vida y sabía que trabajar en comunicaciones era lo que quería hacer por el resto de mi vida. En Univision trabajamos con un programa cada jueves, titulado “Ahora en Nuestra Comunidad” que se trataba de gravar y documentar las historias de las personas comunes y corrientes que tienen un significado muy grande en nuestras vidas. Desde allí sabía que esto era mi destino.

También tuve una maravillosa experiencia con StoryCorps que me cambio mi punto de vista de la vida. Empecé a conocer lo que era StoryCorps durante una entrevista en mi tiempo en Noticias. Cuando entreviste a una facilitadora en la compañía, allí aprendí lo especial que era esta organización sin fines de lucro. StoryCorps básicamente documenta conversaciones de dos personas y los archiva en la biblioteca nacional del congreso. Cuando las conocí en persona, me aconsejaron que aplicara con la compañía y lo voy hacer. Estoy muy emocionada para ver donde me lleve mi carrera en los medios y comunicación.
