Case Study #5: The Suicidal Student

This case study was offered by Bunki Kramer, a middle school art teacher from California.

Mrs. Kramer is teaching her 6th grade art class of 35 students the last period of the day. In the middle of a demonstration, Mr. Forest (the shop teacher) rushes in and grabs her by the arm very upset. One of his students is in uncontrollable tears and threatening suicide and he's desparate and wringing his hands.

If you were Mrs. Kramer, what would you do? What are your options? What should Mrs. Kramer do to insure the "no response from the office" will never happen again?

Find out how Mrs. Kramer handled the situation and other problems that arose.
