My free time revolves around art, food, exercise, and travel. Recently, however, free time has cost a little more than nothing, making me wonder if it's free at all.

Music

I grew up in a musical family and spent years honing my skills as a singer and pianist. Upon starting college I started playing guitar and keys in a band called Edward the Bear. We gigged and grasped at passing delusions for almost 4 years before parting ways. Since then I took up the DJ mixer as a means to my musical end.

Film

After studying film as an undergrad student I have spent far too many hours meticulously dissecting films. At times I wish I could just enjoy a mediocre film as pure entertainment. But a little voice in my head says that's why we have TV.

While working with High Noon Pictures, I participated in various video projects. Most notably, we filmed an experimental ethnography depicting the Garifuna people of Honduras and Belize.

Sport

I also enjoy physical activity, because it just feels good. I used to be quite competitive, I even came pretty close to making Junior Nationals as a rower before college. Now, however, I just compete against myself.

I bike with the Gainesville Cycling Club from time to time. I have been an avid practitioner of yoga for about 8 years. And I play soccer for Bishop FC with the Gainesville Regional Soccer League.

Epicurean

Years of working in fine dining establishments honed my tastes for food and drink. It doesn't hurt that two of my best friends are respectively, a sommelier and a chef. Most of the cooking I do these days is for my fiance. But we have been known to throw a pretty good dinner party from time to time.

I occasionally write food commentary for the Satellite, an arts and culture magazine in Gainesville, FL. But for the most part, I prefer to relax when I go out to eat. Gainesville isn't the most verdant field of good food, so most of my vacations are centered around the best spots to eat and be eaten.
